We are a family owned business, handcrafting cremation urns in the countryside of southeast Wisconsin. Bruce and Lucinda Kiefer started designing and handcrafting high quality solid wood office furniture in 1984. Words that denote a cremation urn built by the Kiefers: Heirloom quality, Handcrafted, Integrity, and a commitment to producing the finest wood urns.
The business of creating cremation urns found us, not the other way around. Bruce wrote a poem titled "The Keep It Box" The poem grew from an awareness that most treasured memories reside in a small box, or drawer. We never thought of it as a wood urn. We began to build solid cherry wood boxes, with the poem engraved on a pewter plate, which we attached to the lid. Part of the poem states "This is the place where memories live" We found that many people were buying our Keep it boxes as a cremation urn. A cremation urn, we were so profoundly touched and honored by the knowledge that our creations are chosen to hold such precious memories. Cremation urns grew to a business from there. Wood urns are warm to the touch. Each of our cremation urns has a hand rubbed finish. Our goal is that the completed cremation urn be a work of art.
The Mood Wood cremation urns have a unique closure system, see our video.
In days gone by every town and village had Americans building things to be used, which stood the test of time. Today, many cremation urns are cheap things made only to sell. Mass produced in foreign countries, delivered by the container load.
We at Mood Wood prefer the business model of days gone by. Using the skills acquired through a lifetime of diligent work, and the highest quality materials, to produce handcrafted solid wood urns. Our goal; to create a cremation urn in an artistry that reflects your most treasured memories.
